Responsive Web Design

Written by

What is RWD and what does it mean to me? Responsive Web Design is a method for building sites to provide optimal viewing and navigational experiences regardless of the device used to view it. This method of design has become increasingly prevalent, as more sites are now viewed on tablets and phones than on desktops and laptops.

To get an idea how RWD works, view this web site on a desktop or laptop – now resize the browser window to the size of a tablet or phone.  You will see the the layout and the navigational method adapts to size of the viewing area. Besides giving your visitors a better experience, another advantage of this type of responsive design is that you don’t need to maintain separate layouts and content for mobile viewing, as your site dynamically adapts to the device used.

Anyone that has tried to navigate a traditional website on a phone, knows the advantage of a phone optimized site.  Make sure you know what your visitors are seeing on all devices, as chances are more than 50% aren’t viewing it on a desktop or laptop. If your site is more than 2 or 3 years old, there is a good chance it is not optimized for mobile viewing.

Platypus Multimedia has been busy making sure our clients websites are optimized for today’s internet users, check out a few of our latest projects:  Powers & Waitt, Specialty Products Resources, and M. Cardoza Insurance.
